  • Year 1 Toy Museum

Wed 18 Oct 2023 Mrs Bird

As part of their History learning this term, our Year 1 class have been investigating toys from the past. We needed our families help with this and asked them to send in any toys that they loved or played with when they were young, so that we could set up a Toy Museum for our children to explore. As you can see by the exhibits, the children wrote explanations for the games and toys, and then spent an enjoyable time playing with them. Thank you to everyone who brought in exhibits for our museum, all the visitors who enjoyed it - and well done to our Year 1 historians!

  • New Reading Shed

Wed 20 Sep 2023 Mrs Bird

Our Reading Shed fell into a sorry state of disrepair last year. So we have spent a bit of time rebuilding, re-painting and refurbishing it over the Summer, so that it is a welcoming and cosy place to sit and relax with a good book, or comic during break times. We've got a team of volunteers who are going to help keep it tidy too. A big thank you to Mr Bird for all his carpentry skills and Mrs Clarkson for making it so cosy.

  • Excellence Exhibition

Tue 19 Sep 2023 Mrs Bird

Coppull Parish is a wonderful school, but we never rest on our laurels, we are always trying to find new ways of making the school even better - a place of excellence. One of the ways we are doing this is by teaching the children to reflect critically on their work and through ‘kind, specific and helpful’ peer critique, to produce several drafts in order to make their work the best it can possibly be. During the first two weeks of term, our Year 1-6 classes were creating some fabulously creative art work, which they have improved through feedback, in order to produce work, they are truly proud of.

As a result of all their hard work, we held an ‘Excellence Exhibition’ today to showcase their amazing art work and, in some cases, show the progress from their starting points to the final display piece.  Families, friends, neighbours and the local community were all invited to join us, to see what a huge difference ‘not settling for your first attempt’ really makes.

Please take a look and judge the progress for yourselves.

  • MacMillan Coffee Morning

Tue 19 Sep 2023 Mrs Bird

We held our annual MacMillan Coffee Morning today, on a very wet and blustery September morning. However, our families did not let us down, they braved the dreadful weather and came and joined us for refreshments. Thank you so much to the staff and parents who did all the baking for us and to everyone that attended the event and helped us raised much needed funds for this wonderful charity.

  • Swimming Pool at Coppull Parish

Fri 15 Sep 2023 Mrs Bird

We decided to hire a swimming pool, from Pro-Sport, to ensure that our children had first class small group swimming tuition in the school grounds. This way, we saved travelling time and made sure that children spent the maximum time in the water, with the instructor, and lifeguard looking on. At the end of two weeks, the whole of Year 3, Year 2 and any previous non-swimmers from Year 4, 5 and 6 have ALL been swimming. It has been wonderful and so many of our children are now water confident and able swimmers. Well done everyone!!!

  • Health Week at Coppull Parish

Fri 09 Jun 2023 Mrs Bird

What a fabulous Health Week we have had at Coppull Parish. It has been wonderful to see all the children taking part in so many different activities which develop and promote good health and increase their fitness. A huge thank you to Mrs Cooper and Miss Robson for organizing all our amazing visitors, which included: Drumzaloud, Traditional games (with Mrs Smith), skateboarding, Inspire's Healthy Eating sessions, Quidditch, Mindfulness, Summer games, Dodgeball and not forgetting the WIGAN WARRIORS. The teachers also planned lots of class based activities about good hygiene and strategies for good mental health. What a busy and amazing week the children have had. Here are some photographs of the activities, from different year groups, to give you a flavour of our week.

  • Year 4 visit to Preston Mosque and Hindu Temple

Fri 26 May 2023 Mrs Bird

Our Year 4 class had a wonderful trip to the Broadlands area of Preston yesterday, to visit the Masjid E Saliheen Mosque and the Gujarat Hindu Temple, as part of their RE learning about world faiths.

They began their visit at the Mosque, where the Imam gave them a tour of the beautiful building; showing them all the gorgeous Arabic calligraphy of the 99 names of Allah and the different parts of the Mosque. They had a chance to look at the Quran, the Islamic holy text, and hear the 'call to prayer' and even watch him pray. It was a really informative and interesting session, which reminded the children about the Muslim rules for living: The 5 pillars of Islam, and talked about the things that our religions have in common.

We then visited the Gujarat Hindu Temple, where our guide introduced us to the priest, who put a bindi dot on our heads, as a blessing. We were then shown all the shrines to the various Hindu deities, including Krishna, Ganesh, Hanuman and Shiva. They were extremely colourful and our guide explained how the priest washed and dressed them every day, as part of his rituals. We heard some stories of the Hindu gods, then had the opportunity to chant, sing and play instruments too. The whole experience was extremely spiritual and enlightening.

We then had the opportunity to visit the Year3/4 children from St Stephens C of E School, who are situated next to the temple, and the children and staff made us very welcome. It was a wonderful opportunity for our children to make friends with children from a wide range of cultures, faiths and ethnicities, as St Stephens is a very multi-ethnic school, which represents modern British society. Both classes had a lovely time spending time together and are going to be penpals in future.

  • Spirituality Week - Chinese Day

Mon 22 May 2023 Mrs Bird

This week is our Spirituality Week at Coppull Parish. As part of this, we have invited the Chinese Confucius Society into school to run activities which give children a sense of joy, awe and wonder; develop their creativity and self-esteem; and promote mindfulness. During our Chinese Experience day, the children were instructed in Tai-Chi, paper cutting, Dragon Dancing and Chinese lantern making, which gave them the opportunity to meet Chinese students and gain a better understanding of the Chinese culture. Have a look at the photographs to see what a fabulous day the children had.

  • Fairtrade Coffee Morning and Bake Off Competition

Fri 10 Mar 2023 Mrs Bird

Fairtrade Coffee Morning and Bake Off Competition

What a brilliant start to a Friday morning! We were inundated with donations of delicious cakes, biscuits and traybakes for our Fairtrade Coffee Morning and were pleased to welcome some of our parents & grandparents to enjoy them with a nice hot drink. Thank you to everyone who baked for us, all the children have had the opportunity to go to the hall and purchase cakes this morning - I can't tell you how excited they were to see the wonderful selection to choose from.

We we delighted by the number of children's entries for the Bake Off competition this year - the standard was so high, Cath Greenless had such a difficult job judging them. Finally, after a lot of comparative tasting, she chose the Nutella Crumble cake baked by Santina in Year 4, as the overall winner. However, she was so impressed by the quality of the entries, she awarded all the children who entered with a bar of Fairtrade chocolate. The adult winner was Sandra Kay, who produced a delicious chocolate ring cake. Well done to everyone involved.

So far we have raised £110 - so a huge well done to the children from the Kingdom Club who organized the event, baked and decorated cakes and ran the coffee morning, all in support of Fairtrade. You should be very proud of yourselves.

Thank you everyone for your amazing support.
    Mrs Bird
