Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Today, some of the children from our Kingdom Club attended the annual Fairtrade Conference at County Hall, Preston with Mrs Hackett, our Chair of Governors. The focus this year was all about Fairtrade footballs, so the children have learned everything they can, so they can put together an educational assembly to teach their classmates about the process involved and how Fairtrade is supporting these skilled workers in Pakistan, so that we can continue to support them too.
Much to their surprise, our children were asked to speak to everyone in attendance about why they made the decision to make Coppull Parish a Fairtrade school and describe all the activities and events the Kingdom Club have led and organized over the years. Mrs Hackett was so proud of them, they represented our school so well and were so knowledgeable and passionate about Fairtrade. Well done Minnie, Coco, Cora and Devonee, what courageous advocates you are!
We were delighted to be approached by the Head at Brinscall C of E Primary School requesting for their Worship/Ethos group to meet up with the Coppull Parish Worship/Kingdom Club this week. It was a brilliant opportunity for the children from both schools to get to know each other and find out the role they have in school life. As we have so many children in our group, we were only able to include 8 children, but they were very excited to represent their school mates and share the wide range of things they do within school. Our Worship Group leads songs and prayers in worship, they created and ran prayer stations in our Spirituality Week, they also write a prayer for the weekly newsletter, as well as planning and taking part in performances of Bible stories and read scripture and lead prayers in the Harvest, Easter and Christmas Services at Coppull Parish Church. We were able to share some prayers with the Brinscall children and demonstrate a couple of their favourite action songs: Our Lighthouse and Light of the World. Meanwhile, our Kingdom Club take part in lots of activities which make Coppull Parish and our community more like the Kingdom of God. For example, they prepare and deliver assemblies on road safety, anti-bullying and the Wow Travel Tracker (which reduces pollution, congestion and promotes a healthy lifestyle). They are also courageous advocates for tackling inequality in our world, taking part in lots of Fairtrade activities, attend the annual Fairtrade Conference and have achieved Fairtrade status for the school. They also choose a different charity each year to support. This year, they have chosen the Woodlands Animal Sanctuary in Ormskirk, as most people voted to support an animal charity this year. We ended our session with a lovely Bible craft activity and spent time getting to know each other. We are hoping to visit Brinscall later in the year to see the work that their worship group are doing.
Our children had a brilliant afternoon being thoroughly entertained by Chaplins theatre company today. Our younger children were completely enthralled and involved in the story line and everyone loved booing the villain and shouting 'he's behind you!' We had jokes galore, song and dance routines and a whole lot of fun. Have a look at the photographs and see what a great time we all had. Thank you to the PTFA who provided a sweet treat for home time too, what a great finish to a wonderful afternoon!
Mrs Goymer and the Gardening Club have been really busy this week making a hedgehog hut and garlands of berries and popcorn to feed the wild birds over the colder months. I even saw a cheeky squirrel heading towards our allotment the other day, so the local wildlife will definitely appreciate all the hard work. I know the children really look forward to their Gardening Club sessions, as they learn so much and develop all their gardening skills and talents. Thank you children and thank you Mrs Goymer for your dedication!
Yesterday, the whole school took part in the Blackburn Diocese's Year of Prayer launch, which was delivered (via Zoom) by Phillip, the Bishop of Blackburn.
The Diocese are launching this lovely event to celebrate their centenary year and Coppull Parish are more than happy to be involved in this as we explore how we can both underpin our own lives with prayer and develop and embed a culture of prayer in the lives of the children and young people we have the privilege of connecting and sharing our faith with.
Twenty thousand children across the Diocese are taking part in a weekly prayer and to demonstrate this experience, Bishop Phillip led all the schools taking part in today's session in 'quiet' prayer for support with something they personally need and 'noisy' prayer for countries that need peace. You can probably guess which the children enjoyed the most - it wasn't very peaceful, but they will definitely have delivered their message!
For Spirituality Week the children have been learning about Hinduism, so that they can connect with other cultures and religions, reflect on their own faith and beliefs and have opportunities for creativity, joy and WOW moments. During the week each class learned about Hindu Gods and chose their favourite to focus on. Children have also learned about Hindu festivals, including Diwali and wedding ceremonies, had an opportunity to make Diva lamps and wear traditional Hindu wedding clothes. To add to the experience, they have enjoyed listening to some traditional music, learned an energetic dance routine, been creative through arts and crafts and designed and constructed a Hindu shrine for their class. The week will culminate on Diwali, with a celebration in the hall, surrounded by the beautiful shrines, performing the dances, eating the delicious food they have cooked and welcoming one of our grandparents, who has shared her experiences of growing up as a Hindu child in India and moving to the UK as an adult. It has been a really memorable and fun-packed week, which the children have thoroughly enjoyed. Here are some photographs of our 'show and tell' assembly today, where each class shared their learning, showed us their shrines and, in some cases, performed dance routines to the delight of the rest of the Coppull Parish family.
Thank you so much for your generosity with the Harvest Service. My car was absolutely laden down with all your kind donations. Some of the children from Worship Group helped to carry it all into Coppull Parish Church and create a lovely display under the altar and on all the windowsills. This food is going to the Living Waters foodbank, who will really appreciate our support. Well done to the children from Worship Group for all their hard work, and to everyone who donated.
Kind regards,
Mrs Bird
Today our Year 5 and 6 children went on an RE trip to the Hindu Temple and Mosque in Broadgate in Preston to support their learning about Hinduism and Islam in school. Year 5 have completed an RE unit on 'The Bible' so were particularly focusing on the sacred texts of Islam and Hinduism; while our Year 6 children have been studying Pilgrimages in their RE lessons, so were finding out the Hajj and any pilgrimages relating to the Hindu faith. Both classes visited both venues and really enjoyed talking to the local faith community and the religious leaders. Here are some photographs of their visit. I particularly liked the photograph of some of our boys lying on the carpet and looking at the highly decorated temple ceiling, pointing out the artwork of different Hindu deities.
We had a visit from Simon from Flat Stan First Aid training today, who worked with Year 2, 4, 5 and 6 and taught them a wide range of first aid techniques. The children were taught resuscitation skills and what to do if someone is choking, as well as how to deal with cuts and minor injuries. Simon said that the children were really interested, asked some great questions and demonstrated their sound understanding at the end of each session. Hopefully this knowledge and skills will stay with them for life.
Here are some photographs of our Year 2 children demonstrating their learning. Well done children!
