  • Shoe Box appeal 2019

Fri 20 Dec 2019 Mrs Bird
A big thank you to all our families who filled shoeboxes for the Rotary Shoebox appeal this year. This year they are sending them to children in children's homes in Eastern Europe, who would not receive presents on Christmas day without your kind gifts. Mr Meadley from the Rotary Club was thrilled by our generosity and asked me to thank everyone for their gifts. Here is a photograph of some of our Year 6 children packing his car with all the shoe boxes.
  • The Bishop of Blackburn presents our Fairtrade Award

Tue 17 Dec 2019 Mrs Bird
Two years ago, we began our journey to become a Fairtrade school. Since then we have taken part in Fairtrade Fortnight, raised funds through Fairtrade coffee mornings, delivered assemblies about it, had a bake sale and some of the children even attended a Fairtrade conference. As a result of their endeavours, we have finally completed the 3rd stage of the the award and can now officially call ourselves a Fairtrade School. What a massive achievement - out of the 190 schools in Lancashire, we are one of the 8 which has achieved this status. When the Bishop of Blackburn heard about this, he arranged to come Coppull Parish and present us with our award. So this morning, we were delighted to welcome Bishop Julian, and Cath Greenless, who was the lady who introduced us to Fairtrade in the first place, to lead an assembly on generosity and present us with our award. Bishop Julian had a good look around the school, visiting every classroom and chatting to the children about their work. It was a lovely visit and a real honour to have the Bishop visit us at Coppull Parish. Well done to the original Ethos group, who started the ball rolling with the Fairtrade awards - we will keep the banner flying!
  • Victorian Day in Year 2 and Year 4

Tue 17 Dec 2019 Mrs Bird
Last Friday, our Year 2 and Year 4 classes stepped back in time to the Victorian Era. Many of them came to school dressed as Victorian children, along with the odd suffragette, and were immersed in this rich period of British history. In order to experience life as a Victorian school child, the boys and girls were taught separately, they sat in rows, wrote on slates, had very strict rules to follow and each gender learned the skills they would need as an adult, so lots of homemaking skills for all those future housewives! A huge well done to all the staff who organized this exciting day for the children; and a big thank you to all the parents for rallying around and sending you into school dressed up in all your Victorian finery. I am sure this will help the children to remember much more about this period of our history.
  • Autumn term Geography Quiz

Wed 11 Dec 2019 Mrs Bird
This Tuesday afternoon all the children gathered in the hall for our Geography quiz. This term, the children had been learning all about Oceania in class and as part of their homework tasks, so Mrs Davison prepared a challenging quiz to test their learning and knowledge. The children worked in mixed age groups to answer the questions as a team, and they had some real 'head scratchers' to contend with. After a hard fought battle, one team excelled. Here is a photo of the winning team and some pictures which capture the event. Well done to Mrs Davison for organizing this great event and to the children for learning so much about our amazing world.
  • Choir perform at local nursing home

    Wed 11 Dec 2019
Yesterday afternoon our choir, ably led by Mrs Bridge, performed a carol concert for the elderly residents of Springfield Nursing Home in Coppull. The children had a lovely time singing a wonderful medley of Christmas carols and songs to a delighted audience, who joined in with gusto. Well done to the choir for spreading a bit of Christmas spirit and joy throughout the local community.
