  • World Education Games Winners!

    Fri 15 Mar 2013

The children at Coppull Parish have recently taken part in the World Education Games 2013 competition.

The World Education Games is an annual online challenge to give the top students in all schools an opportunity to see how they measure up against the best in the world.
Last year, over 5 million students were a part of what is now the world’s largest online education event.

Over the past few weeks, many children from our school took part and enjoyed playing games that focussed on literacy, mathematics and science.

Here are the children from each class with their certificates for either the highest points gained or the most games played.

A HUGE congratulations to everyone who took part in this global event!

  • Celebrating World Book Day

    Thu 07 Mar 2013

Filling the school playground this morning
were over 200 children (plus members of staff)
all wearing their favourite pyjamas to celebrate World Book Day!

Although it might look like we've had a rather sleepy day, we've all been busy writing exciting stories, exchanging books, making our own books or just enjoying a good read with each other.

Our book exchange was a resounding success with many children bringing in books that they no longer read, to exchange for a different one. The children couldn't wait to read their new books in class and have enthusiastically told us how much fun they had, so much so, that we are thinking of making it a more regular event…watch this space!
Thank you so much to everyone who brought books in for this.

Your child should have brought home a £1 book token, which they can exhange for one of the amazing World Book Day Books at any book shop, or even Tesco.

  • Cake Sale & Penny Collection - Results!

    Mon 04 Mar 2013
A BIG thank you from all the children in Year 6 and Miss Sharrock, following the cake sale and Penny Collection for The Gambia.

In just one week, Coppull Parish raised a remarkable £172.48!
    Wow!

This money collected will be sent to Bijilo Health Centre in The Gambia, to help refurbish the hospital facilites there.

Through the cake sale alone, we managed to raise an amazing £91.38!

The class that collected the most pennies was Year 6, who collected an astonishing £30.01 in just one week.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us in this fundraising event - it is much appreciated!
  • Cake Sale & Penny Collection -Year 6 need your help!

    Fri 15 Feb 2013
As part of our continuing fundraising efforts to help The Gambia, Year 6 has decided to hold a cake sale at school on Tuesday 26th February (first Tuesday back after the half term).

They will be sold to the whole school for 20p each in the afternoon. We would be extremely grateful if anyone could bake, or buy, some cakes for us to sell on this day.  Please bring these into school on Tuesday morning.

Year 6 has also decided to organise a Penny Collection for the whole school. Each class is to have the first week back after half term to collect as many pennies as they can, with a prize being awarded to the class which collects the most. Every penny counts!

We are aiming to raise £250 for this great cause through both the Cake Sale and Penny Collection. Thank you for your support with this.

    Thanks,
    Miss Sharrock & Year 6
  • Speeding Motorists Beware!

    Wed 30 Jan 2013

A few weeks ago, five police men and women came into the Year 6 class to give a talk about speeding. They told us about drivers not sticking to the 20mph speed limit
around Coppull... so we had a solution!

On Wednesday 30th January, the police split our class into groups of five. Then each group went out, one at a time, to Chapel Lane to watch out for speeding motorists.
When we spotted one using the speeding gun,
the police pulled them over and brought them over to us.
One by one, we asked them questions that we
    had prepared in class.

    The questions were:
    1)      Why were you speeding?
    2)      Do you realise you are risking your own
and other people’s lives by speeding?
    3)      Was the place you were going more
    important than my life?
    4)      Would you like to tell my parents you
knocked me over because of speeding?
    5)      What is more important, my life or
    where you are going?

The reason the police wanted the school children to talk to speeding drivers, instead of them giving them a fine was because we would hopefully make more impact on their view of driving.
Hopefully, adults will be more aware of the danger that threatens pedestrians from speeding in the future.

SPEED LIMITS ARE TO BE OBEYED!

  • Bethlehem's Buzzin!

    Thu 13 Dec 2012

The children in KS1 have been busy rehearsing for their special Christmas production of 'Bethlehem's Buzzin' over the last few weeks, and this week, the children finally got to share their production with their family and friends here at Coppull Parish.
    What a performance!

Their acting, singing, and dancing was perfect throughout and they were an absolute credit to our school. We are so proud of all the children in Year 1 and Year 2. Well done!

A special thanks to Miss Green, Miss Chandler, Mrs Lurrie and Mrs Ruler for all for organising such a wonderful production.

Also, thanks once again for Morris's Bakery for supplying mince pies for the production.

  • A Paraolympian Visits Coppull Parish

    Wed 12 Dec 2012

Today Coppull Parish had the amazing opportunity to meet a Paralympian, who managed to win a silver medal in the London 2012 Paralympic Games!

Graeme Ballard came into our school earlier on this year, just after he has beaten the world record for the T36 100m sprint at the Paralympic World Cup, in Manchester. He ran the 100m in an impressive 11.98 seconds! Wow!

He discussed with us back in May, how he hoped to compete in the London 2012 games, but he had a lot of preperations to do before that could happen. Thankfully, all of his efforts and determination paid off and he was able to take part in both the 100m and 200m sprint events.

Ballard won the bronze medal on his Paralympic debut on the 200m track event in Athens but missed out on medals in Beijing.  This year, he managed to win a silver medal in London!
He ran the race in 12.24 seconds!

It was great to hear about his exercise routine, healthy diet and also to be able to see and hold an Paralympic silver medal!

Thank you for coming to visit us and congratulations again from all at Coppull Parish.
