  • Islamic Faith visitor

Wed 26 Feb 2025 Mrs Bird

We were delighted to welcome Imran Kotwal to Coppull Parish this morning to teach our children all about the Islamic festivals of Ramadan and Eid. He brought in lots of religious artefacts to really engage the children and bring his explanations to life. The children asked lots of great questions and really enjoyed learning more about Muslim beliefs and practices, and it was so lovely to meet Imran, once again.

Later he delivered workshops on the Five Pillars of Islam for Year 4 and 5, and then taught Year 2 about the Qu'ran and how Muslims pray, as this complemented their RE learning on Holy texts. It was a really busy and fun filled morning and the children learned so much.

  • Worship Group performance of Moses

Wed 12 Feb 2025 Mrs Bird

This half term, we have been learning all about Moses during our Worship each Monday morning, so our Worship group thought it would be a good idea to put together a play recounting this epic story for the whole school. They were brilliant, all learning their lines, looking magnificent in their costumes and leading the school in a rousing action song as a finale. Thank you to the Worship group for your enthusiasm, hard work and talent. Here are some photos, which capture the key moments.

  • Jewish faith visitor to Coppull Parish

Mon 10 Feb 2025 Mrs Bird

We were delighted to welcome Rachel to Coppull Parish today to talk to the children in Year 4 and 6 about her Jewish faith and traditions.

As Year 6 have been studying the Exodus, this was their focus today. Mrs Jones, their teacher, reports that the children really impressed Rachel with their knowledge of the Exodus and re-told the story of Moses accurately. Rachel then talked about how her family, who are Reform Jews, celebrate the Passover with the Seder meal and traditions. Our children were particularly interested to learn that mobile phones and devices were not allowed during this period, as it is a spiritual time of reflection so these distractions are put aside for the Passover period.

Meanwhile, in Year 4, Rachel helped the children understand the importance and traditions of Shabbat in the Jewish faith. Rachel had brought in some of the clothing that Jews wear for this event, such as the kippah (head covering) and the tallit (prayer shawl). Rachel also told us the importance of reading the Torah, lighting the candles and not working on the sabbath. The children were very interested and intrigued about this important ritual in the Jewish faith.

Afterwards, Rachel reported that she had a wonderful time and was deeply impressed about the amount of learning that the children had retained about Judaism. She is looking forward to coming back and helping even more of our children bring their learning to life. Thank you to Rachel!

  • Kingdom Club children visiting the Woodland Animal Sanctuary

Fri 07 Feb 2025 Mrs Bird

This afternoon, four lucky children from our Kingdom Club visited the Woodland Animal Sanctuary at Ormskirk. This is the Kingdom Club's chosen charity this year, so we were visiting in order to gather information about the animals, the staff, the costs involved in running the sanctuary and find out 'how' we could best support them. We have come away with lots of exciting ideas, which we will roll out next half term, after we have delivered an assembly telling the rest of the school all about our visit and our chosen charity. Well done to Baxter, Arthur, Lydia and Harlow for your enthusiasm and wonderful behaviour today.

  • Kingdom Club attend the Fairtrade Conference

Fri 07 Feb 2025 Mrs Bird

Today, some of the children from our Kingdom Club attended the annual Fairtrade Conference at County Hall, Preston with Mrs Hackett, our Chair of Governors. The focus this year was all about Fairtrade footballs, so the children have learned everything they can, so they can put together an educational assembly to teach their classmates about the process involved and how Fairtrade is supporting these skilled workers in Pakistan, so that we can continue to support them too.

Much to their surprise, our children were asked to speak to everyone in attendance about why they made the decision to make Coppull Parish a Fairtrade school and describe all the activities and events the Kingdom Club have led and organized over the years. Mrs Hackett was so proud of them, they represented our school so well and were so knowledgeable and passionate about Fairtrade. Well done Minnie, Coco, Cora and Devonee, what courageous advocates you are!
