  • Ethos Conference

Fri 08 Mar 2019 Mrs Bird

Four of our Ethos group visited St James Church of England Primary to take part in their Ethos Conference todday. They had a brilliant time, taking part in lots of different Bible study activities and were all given their own bible in the final presentation assembly. As usual, Jasmine, Ruby, Philip and Joshua represented Coppull Parish really well, with their wonderful behaviour, manners and attitude to work. Well done children.

  • Dan Worsley author visit

Thu 07 Mar 2019 Mrs Bird
It's World Book Day again and we have been so lucky to have Dan Worsley, the author of the Eric Appleby triology come and visit us. He explained the writing and editing process to the children and showed them how illustrations were developed, then acted out one of his hilarious stories from his 'Impossible Tales' series. Our Year 4 and 5 children were then lucky enough to have writing workshops with him in the morning and thoroughly enjoyed working with him and learning new skills.
  • Meet our Link School!

Wed 06 Mar 2019 Mrs Bird
We have established a link between the children in our Year 5 class and a Year 6 class from St Peter's Church of England Primary School in Blackburn. We decided to do this to improve our children's understanding of Britain as a multi-cultural society, as many of them have not had an opportunity to mix with children from other faiths and cultures before and at St Peter's many of the children are Muslims and there were at least 3 nationalities represented in the class. The children have been writing to each other to learn more about each other, their families and way of life and, last week, the children had the opportunity to meet for the first time to take part in a day of drama activities. Mrs Davison and Mrs Gretton, who arranged the trip and accompanied them on their visit, said the children had a wonderful day, made some good friends and are really looking forward to visiting the children at St Peter's and for them to come to Coppull Parish and see what we are all about. We are all excited about our future visits.
  • Author Visit

Wed 06 Mar 2019 Mrs Bird
Yesterday, we had a very special visitor in school: Laura Ellen Anderson, the author of the Amelia Fang series of books. She held a special assembly for our Juniors and some children from Coppull Primary School to tell them all about the creative process of writing, where she gets her ideas and how she creates her characters. She has a lot of avid fans in the school, so the children really enjoyed listening to her talking about her books. Laura also set them a brilliant challenge to write their own story entitled 'Boris Prickles and the Cheesy Pear Monster' for a competition. Our budding authors have already put pen to paper, as they would love the chance to win an autographed copy of the next Amelia Fang book. What a great experience!

  • Ethos group at Fairtrade Conference

Mon 11 Feb 2019 Mrs Bird
Last Friday, several members of our Ethos group, attended a Fairtrade Conference at County Hall, Preston, hosted by Lancashire County Council. The children were very impressed with the grandeur of County Hall and had a really busy day learning all about Fairtrade and why it is such a crucial support for farmers in poorer communities around the world. They took part in fascinating, interactive workshops focusing on tea production in Kenya, chocolate production in Ghana and the football producing industry in Pakistan. By the end of it, they were incredibly knowledgeable about the importance of Fairtrade and the Fairtrade Premium on so many families' lives. They are now planning on running some Fairtrade events after the half term, to educate our children, raise the profile of Fairtrade and have a bit of fun! A big well done to Megan, Nikita, Paige and Faye for being wonderful ambassadors for the school and gaining so much from this brilliant conference.
  • Chinese New Year Celebrations

Tue 05 Feb 2019 Mrs Bird
Coppull Parish celebrated Chinese New Year in style this year, with every child taking part in Chinese drumming performances and Dragon dancing workshops. The noise of all those drums reverberating around the hall was phenomenal! The children learned all about China and the Chinese New Year celebrations in class and have produced some lovely work, which will be on display in our classrooms.
