  • World Book Day at Coppull Parish

Thu 05 Mar 2020 Mrs Bird
It's World Book Day 2020 and Coppull Parish is having a ball. This year, we decided to have a poetry focus, as we have invited a brilliant poet, called Ash Dickinson to get the day off to a great start by performing some of his amazing poetry in our assembly. The children and staff were all invited to come to school dressed a poem or nursery rhyme and bring their poem in, to share with their classmates. The outfits were colourful and creative and the range of poetry was fabulous - we all learned so much and had a great time. Ash delivered poetry workshops in every class throughout the day, and was delighted by the children's enthusiasm and talent. Mrs Clarkson, our Literacy leader, created a poetry trail throughout school, which had riddles, rhymes and quizzes to complete, and kept the children thoroughly entertained. What a wonderful way to discover lots of new poets and poetic styles, dress up and have a brilliant day of learning. Well done to everyone who threw themselves into it and made it such a super day.

  • Kingdom group's Fairtrade Week Launch

Mon 24 Feb 2020 Mrs Bird
We are celebrating Fairtrade Week at Coppull Parish, and the Kingdom Club, who are trying to turn our world into the Kingdom of God, prepared and delivered an assembly all about Fairtrade to remind our children why we support this initiative in school.  Their assembly was all about the world running out of chocolate because the cocoa farmers weren't receiving enough money to feed their families, or send their children to school. It was a disaster! Fortunately, there is a solution, buy Fairtrade chocolate and it will make cocoa farming sustainable for future generations. So well done to the Kingdom Club for delivering such an important and powerful message. Here are some photographs of their assembly.
  • Spirituality Week Celebration

Mon 24 Feb 2020 Mrs Gill

To end our wonderful spirituality week, we transformed our school hall into a selection of activities. Throughout the week, each class was studying a different religion, learning all about their cultures, festivals and more. Each class created a task, focusing on one aspect of the religion studied, for the rest of the school to carry out.

    Reception and Year 1:

Reception and Year 1 were studying Buddhism and learned all about how Buddha reached enlightenment by meditating. So they created their own peaceful area for us to meditate in, giving us suggestions of poses whilst listening to beautiful tranquil music.

    Year 2

Year 2 have loved learning all about Islam this week. As well as learning all about the religion traditions, they also focused on the art inspired by Islam. They created an area for us to design and create our own Islamic geometric pattern, the Islamic mandala, by collaging and colouring using the traditional colours.

    Year 3

Year 3 have been learning all about Judaism this week. They have enjoyed learning all about the differences and similarities between symbols in Judaism and Christianity. Their task was to create our own version of the Star of David.

    Year 4:

Year 4 have learned all about the Buddhist New Year festival called Songkran, traditionally people would pour and sprinkle water over each other to signify cleansing and cleaning and a fresh start. After this they would then travel to the nearest river to enjoy paper boat racing. Year 4 set up an activity to create your own paper boat, then blow ‘your troubles away’, pushing your boat along the ‘river’.

    Year 5:

Year 5 have been learning all about Sikhism this week. They focused on the traditions of the religion and learned all about the different clothing and dress styles. A traditional accessory worn is a Kalgi, a beautiful headpiece, similar to a broach, which is worn at the front of the turban. Their task was to create your own Kalgi, decorating with precious stones or feathers.

    Year 6:

Year 6 have been learning all about Hinduism. A festival they focussed on was the Holi festival, also known as the festival of colours, signifying the start of spring by showering your friends and family with powdered paint. To re create this, the year 6 class created a task based on the technique ‘blow painting’; drawing around your hand and, using bright water colours and water, blowing the paint across your ‘hand’.

Here are a selection of photographs which were taken throughout the day.
