  • Fairtrade Coffee Morning

Wed 04 Jul 2018 Mrs Bird
On Wednesday morning, we held a Fairtrade Coffee Morning in the hall. The Ethos group had been busy baking coffee & ginger cookies, banana flapjacks, coffee choc chip muffins and chocolate cornflake cakes - all made with Fairtrade products - to ensure our guests were well fed. Mrs Eccles also supplied a delicious range of gluten free Fairtrade cakes, as did a number of our wonderful parents. The event was attended by lots of our parents and grandparents, who were happy to support the Ethos group's Fairtrade Campaign. A big thank you to Cath Greenless for bringing her Fairtrade Craft Stall to the school for the morning, to the Ethos group for organizing it, and to all the parents and families who were able to attend.
  • Geography Quiz

Tue 03 Jul 2018 Mrs Bird
The whole school took part in our end of term Geography Quiz on Monday afternoon. This term the children have been studying the continent of South America and learning about its geographic features, such as the highest mountain and longest river, as well as identifying the countries within South America, the languages, religions, wildlife, flags, etc. Once again we organized the children into mixed age groups, led by our Year 6 pupils, and asked them to work as a team to answer a series of quite challenging questions. They all did really well and showed what a wide range of knowledge they had acquired over the term. Well done to Miss Grimes for organizing the entire event and the children for participating so enthusiastically and having learned so much!
  • Ethos group Fairtrade Assembly

Mon 02 Jul 2018 Mrs Bird
On Monday our Ethos group delivered a really interesting assembly on Fairtrade to our children and parents. They explained how Fairtrade supports farmers worldwide and ensures they get a fair day's pay for all their hard work producing the foods we love. With the help of 'Banana Man' the children learned that if we buy products with a Fairtrade sticker, we can help farming communities across the world provide food, medicine and education for their families. What a worthwhile cause! Well done to all the children in the Ethos group for getting behind this worthwhile campaign and educating us all about Fairtrade.
  • Year 2 and Year 4 Mosque visit

Wed 02 May 2018 Mrs Bird
The children of Year 2 and Year 4 went on a visit to a Mosque in Blackburn today. During our RE lessons they have been studying Islam, so it was important that they were able to visit this beautiful domed Mosque, visit the prayer hall and meet the Imam. They had a really good time and learned more about Muslims and their rules and rituals for worship.
  • Maypole Dancing

    Fri 20 Apr 2018
Mrs Lock has been teaching the Maypole Dancing club different dances and routines to perform at the Church Spring Fair and our Summer Fair later this term. The more experienced members are helping the less experienced ones to learn the complicated routines, but as you can see from their faces, they are all having great fun learning this new skill. We can't wait to see your performances later in the term!
  • Eggs-treme Reading Competition

Thu 12 Apr 2018 Miss Robson

Over half term, we set the children the challenge of reading in weird and wonderful places, and they have certainly been creative! Who knew you could read upside down, in a cave or on top of a car! We have loved looking at all the lovely pictures, please see a selection below.

I had the tough job of choosing a winner from each Key Stage, which will be announced in celebration assembly on Friday.

  • School Council 'Wear it Yellow' for Cystic Fibrosis assembly

Tue 10 Apr 2018 Mrs Bird
Today, our School Council, presented an assembly to the whole school about Cystic Fibrosis, as it is a serious health condition which affects one of our families, so is very close to their hearts. They explained what Cystic Fibrosis is, the effect it has on the sufferer and how this impacts on their lives, in terms of the daily medication and physiotherapy required. The School Council then asked our children to be involved in the 'Wear it Yellow' day on Friday and support the Cystic Fibrosis charity by bringing a £1 donation in to purchase a cake. A big well done to the School Council and Mrs Jones for organizing this event and let's hope they raise lots of money for this really worthwhile charity!
  • Geography Quiz

Tue 20 Mar 2018 Mrs Bird
Miss Grimes, our Geography leader, organizes a quiz at the end of each term to test the children's knowledge and understanding of the continent we have been studying as part of our Geography curriculum. This term our children have enjoyed learning all about Asia and were delighted to have the opportunity to showcase this knowledge in a Geography team challenge this morning. They answered 20 questions about the continent of Asia, ranging from different flags and currencies, human and physical features, different languages, traditional foods and many more aspects of this diverse continent. The children were organized into mixed teams of children from Reception to Year 6 and worked brilliantly together to answer the questions. Miss Grimes threw in a few 'bonus' questions, which even stretched some of the adults in the room, so that all children were fully challenged. Have a look at the photographs of the quiz in action and you can also see a picture of the winning team. Well done to Miss Grimes for organizing it all, the children for learning so much and the winning team for doing so well.
  • Primary Science Team Challenge

Mon 19 Mar 2018 Mrs Bird
Coppull Parish were delighted to be invited to take part in a Primary Science Team Challenge competition at Charnock Richard C of E Primary this afternoon. The four children completed several practical scientific challenges throughout the afternoon and then took part in a Science Quiz, which involved recognizing famous scientists, birds, identifying planets and answering tricky questions from the Year 3 to Year 6 curriculum. Emily, Billie-Jo, Alfie and Oliver supported each other through all the challenges and worked well as a team. By the end of the afternoon they had won 3rd place, which was a real achievement. They were excellent ambassadors for the school and made us all very proud. Well done!
