Viewing the BLOODHOUND SSC

On Friday 4th February, some Year 5 children were very fortunate to be asked on a visit to view the amazing BLOODHOUND SSC car.  This vehicle is aiming to beat the current land speed record in 2012/2013, and hopefully reaching a top speed of 1050mph!

That means it can travel...

  • 150 metres in the blink of an eye
  • Four and a half football pitches in 1 seconds
  • Faster than a bullet fired from a Magnum 357
  • Its own car length in less than 3 hundredths of a second

The prototype had been delivered to Hampsons in Wigan to celebrate the design plans being released to the company.  Hampsons are manufacturing the chassis and rear section of the vehicle, with work due to be completed by the end of April.

Whilst we were there, we managed to interview some of the aircraft engineers from Hampsons and ask them about their role in this project.  They even helped us to make our balloon cars, which was great, especially after one of them came 3rd in the competition overall!  Thank you Shaun and John!

We had a wonderful time at Hampsons and are looking forward to monitoring this project in the coming months.
