Reading Buddies at Coppull Parish
The children in Year 5 have been given a very important role this term of helping the children in Year 1 with their reading. Each child has chosen their own 'buddy' who they listen read on a weekly basis.
In class, Year 5 discussed the importance of reading and how they could help the children in Year 1, in particular those who are struggling with their reading.
Here are just a few ways that the Year 5 children thought they could help their buddy...
- Point to the words as they are reading
- Help to sound out tricky words
- Discuss the pictures and ask questions
- Read the text together
- Be patient with them
- Try and show them that reading is fun!
