Welcome to Year One!
This year the children will enjoy an exciting transition from the Foundation Stage to Key Stage One and the National Curriculum. We aim to make this move as smooth as possible, encouraging learning through play and more structured activities. On our class page you will be able to find information about our class, learning and view photos of our varied activities. Our teacher is Miss Blackledge and our Teaching assistant in class each day is Miss Rodgers. Mrs May will also be teaching us one afternoon a week.
Parental help is really important to us. We have a variety of activities you could participate in from reading and playing games to creative work. In every activity you will play a valuable role in helping each child develop new skills. Throughout the year we will be sending home activities you can assist your child with. We hope you will enjoy these!
It is really important for your child to practise reading often in order to consolidate their learning in school and to help them to broaden their vocabulary skills, general knowledge and imagination. While we practice reading in school as much as possible, each child is expected to read to an adult at home each week. This needs to be dated and signed by the adult who hears them to read in their reading record book.
P.E - Please ensure the children’s PE kits are in school all week so that it is available to them every day of the week if we may need them. Please ensure that all PE kit is clearly labeled with your child’s name. Information about our PE sessions are outlined on the curriculum newsletter which we sent home and is also available on the website below.
If you would like to see any of the year 1 staff, please feel free to see us either before school from 8.50 onwards or after school 3.15 onwards to have a chat.
We look forward to a super year!
Thank you for your support, the Year 1 team.
