Design and Technology Curriculum Intent

Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject, which, at Coppull Parish C of E Primary School, we aim to teach through a creative, holistic and inspiring way. Design and Technology encourages children to learn to think and intervene creatively to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team. At Coppull Parish C of E Primary School, we encourage children to use their creativity, curiosity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. The children are also given opportunities to reflect upon and evaluate past and present design technology, its uses and its effectiveness and are encouraged to become innovators and risk-takers. We recognise that not all families are equipped with the opportunities to have healthy lifestyles, so we place an emphasis upon this in our design and technology curriculum.

Underpinned by the following Coppull Parish curriculum drivers:

Healthy lifestyles:

We promote healthy lifestyles interweaving throughout our curriculum, giving the children at least 4 opportunities throughout the year to design, create and evaluate a healthy meal or product.

Developing Speech and language:

A large part of our design and technology curriculum is based around discussion and evaluation. Within this, we promote a variety of rich vocabulary to discuss and evaluate.

Diversity:

As a fair trade school, we give the children lots of opportunities to learn about different food around the world, as well as a cross curricular approach to a diverse food curriculum linked to different countries and religions around the world.
