School Governors – Who We Are

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. In this section, you will find information about the members of our Governing Body, the work we do and how the school is governed.

The School Governing Body is made up of people from a range of backgrounds, reflecting both the foundation upon which the school was established – the Church of England – and the community that the school serves. Details of the current members of the Governing Body can be found below.

The Governing Body has an Instrument of Government, which sets out how the school is led and governed. The school also has a Trust Deed dating back to 1846.

Within the Instrument of Government, the Governors have an ethos statement upon which all of our work is built:

“Recognising its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at parish and diocesan level.

The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith, and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.”

The Governing Body currently consists of 7 governors:

  • 1 Headteacher (ex officio)
  • 4 Foundation Governors
  • 1 Parent Governors
  • 1 Staff Governor

Of the four Foundation Governors, one is the officiating minister at Coppull Parish Church (ex officio).

School Governors – What We Do

The School Governing Body works with the school to help ensure that it provides a high-quality education, built upon Christian values, which provides opportunities for all pupils.

The key roles of the Governors are to:

  • Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and for the performance management of staff;
  • Oversee the financial performance of the school and ensure that its money is well spent.

Governors also carry out a number of important duties, including:

  • Determining how the school’s budget is spent;
  • Appointing and dismissing staff;
  • Hearing appeals and grievances;
  • Formulating policies relating to the school’s curriculum and collective worship;
  • Setting standards for pupils’ behaviour and discipline;
  • Ensuring that the school buildings and grounds are safe and provide a good learning environment;
  • Setting and monitoring the school’s aims, policies and improvement strategies and plans.
