Thank you for visiting our page.
This half term the theme is Discovery. Over the next few weeks we will be making lots of new discoveries, for this we'll need to develop our mapping skills. We have started by looking at our local area by using the internet and our postcode to take a 'bird's-eye' view of the area, the children were so excited to be ale to see their homes. I have added a link to the Grid Reference finder website below if you want to try this at home. We will then be mapping our school grounds ready to put our new map reading skills to the test in a treasure hunt.
I hope you've all had an opportunity to access the Education City homework module by now and are finding it as useful as we are. Let me know if you have any issues, or if you feel the games are too hard or easy. I can also set up booster modules for any child who feels they would like more practise in a particular area.
I will continue to upload as many articles and weblinks as I can to keep you up to date with all the activities and topics Year 2 are involved with so remember to check in on a regular basis.
Just added; 2 websites to help us with our science topic of Living things in their environment.
This week (28/2/12) the children have been Geocaching, a modern day treasure hunt that uses GPS technology (we used the Iphone app) to locate the cache (treasure). We sucessfully found the cache, logged it in the log book and left a little toy from our class before hiding it again for the next geocacher. The link to the website is below; and you might be surprised to know there are millions of hidden caches all over the world so why not have a go yourself.
We had great fun using a map of the area to find our own way to Yarrow Valley Park. I will be uploading photos of our afternoon out as soon as possible.
