On Monday we had two visitors come in to school to teach us some African drumming and dance. We had a lot of fun playing the different instruments and learning the dance moves. We liked the music that much we have been listening to it in class while we do our work.
Today we learned about Africa as a continent. Africa has 57 countries: we chose one to research. After carrying out research we created powerpoint presentations and recorded some facts. Some of us even wrote our own raps about the country we researched. You can listen to some of these by opening the facts and raps document back on the year 4 page.
We looked at the different sides of Africa: rich and poor and compared them to our own country. We also dressed up in some traditional African clothing and painted jungle art.
Today we baked fairtrade cupcakes ready to decorate them at open afternoon. We decorated them with buttercream icing and made butterflies out of icing to go on top. We also played fairtrade games to help us understand who gets paid what for the products we buy.
After school we had an exciting art exhibit where parents could come and look at all the hard work we had done in Africa week. We also sold our cupcakes, Year 4 raised £40 for Gambia buy selling the cupcakes they made!
